Trash Day

As I was getting the trash ready to be taken out today I started thinking about all of the stuff that I was throwing away. It seems to me that almost nothing anymore is meant to be permanent. Eventually everything has to be thrown away, even the stuff that we think of as permanent, isn’t. About the only thing that we can keep forever, and that takes work and love to keep up, is our home.

But that begs the question, if everything is meant to be temporary, why do we let things like career politicians exist? People get so used to voting for the same people over and over again that things in Washington become stagnant. What we are left with are a bunch of old men that care nothing about the people that they represent, instead they care about keeping their jobs and padding their pocketbooks.

So how do we fix this? It’s quite simple actually, term limits for every elected government position. This would mean that politicians wouldn’t have to be worried about how their actions would be received by the party base, or how those actions affect their chances of reelection, and instead they could worry about how their actions affect the people that they represent.
